Sydney Alliance

Over 900 leaders from Sydney Alliance gathered in Westmead NSW on February 28, 2023 to deliver a historic cross-partisan agreement to end no-grounds evictions in NSW. The Signal Box was engaged by Sydney Alliance to capture the night through video as Matt Keen MP (LIB), Daniel Mookhey MP (ALP) and Jenny Leong MP (GRN) respond to the Alliance about cost of living, climate change, affordable and renewable energy, affordable and social housing, fair renting reforms (including removing no-grounds eviction and climate-proofing rental properties). The task at hand was to capture the presentations and testimonies shared as well as the atmosphere, reactions, and comments from the floor.

The Signal Box team was ready for the run-and-gun nature of the gathering, armed with the agenda, ready to capture as the golden moments unfolded before us. In capturing the presentation, we had one crew member positioned in the middle of the room elevated on large boxes so that the camera could see clearly each presenter over the crowd. This was a non-stop two hour recording as each person presented.

Meanwhile, our other crew member roamed the floor capturing key reactions and movements. A critical footage to capture was comments from each of the three MP’s as well as a dozen participants immediately after the conclusion of the event – before they exited the gathering. With our light-and-lean setup, we were agile in the wings, ready to invite each person for a quick word on camera. The result – footage and vox pops in hand, we we’re able to deliver these clips over the next morning ready for social media.

With over 863 participants, 39 founding organisations, and 3 elected officials for negotiation – the inaugural assembly was a big success. Several key VIPs also attended including the Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes and Deputy Mayor Declan Clausen of Newcastle. The Signal Box captured rapid turnaround mini-documentary style content.
